REGULAR TRAVELLERS CONTINUE TO BENEFIT IN REAL TERMS AS FARES REVISED

  • Child weekly local saver ticket price FROZEN
  • Maximum Child Single Fare £1.20
  • Most single fares to increase between 10p – 30p
  • Regular bus users continue to benefit from savings in real terms

Arriva Midlands has reviewed fares in light of increasing energy, insurance, employment and fuel costs, and will be introducing revised fares on its local bus routes in the Burton and Swadlincote area from Sunday 27 July 2008.

Regular bus users who opt for multi-use bus tickets – with fully transferability for family and friends – will continue to benefit, although most Day, Weekly, 4-weekly, quarterly, 6-month and annual tickets will be increased in price Arriva Midlands is to ‘freeze’ the price of its Child Local Day Saver at £8, in the Burton and Swadlincote area, in effect giving savings in real terms.

Arriva day Midlands Saver (£4.70 Adult, £3.60 Child*), Arriva weekly Midlands Saver (£19 Adult, £12 Child), Arriva day local Saver (£3.50)
and Arriva weekly local Saver (£13 Adult, £8 Child) are available from
the driver, with 4-weekly, Quarterly, 6 month and annual tickets being available from PayPoint and payzone outlets.

Increases in single fares have been kept as low as possible - between 10p and 30p on most fares - to help cover rising costs, whilst some maximum single fares remain unchanged. A maximum child single fare will be introduced at £1.20.

A simplified fare structure is being introduced with Family Savers, Big Savers and Day Return tickets no longer being available.

Keith Myatt, communications manager for Arriva Midlands, said: “We have tried hard to keep fare increases to a minimum however we have reached the point where it is inevitable that we must pass on some of the additional costs to customers in order that the services remain sustainable.

“Regular travellers can still benefit from our value for money Day, Weekly and Four Weekly Savers which are fully transferable and can be used without restriction. There has been no increase in the price Arriva’s Child Weekly Local Saver, meaning a saving in real terms.”

Full details of fare changes are available from Arriva’s customer comment helpline on 0844 800 44 11 or via Arriva’s website on www.arrivabus.co.uk.
